Streets and Roadways

Lake Austin Boulevard Bikeway Improvements – Austin, Texas

The proposed bikeway project consists of improving or adding approximately 7,300 linear feet of bike lanes along Lake Austin Boulevard between Red Bud Trail and Exposition Boulevard.  There are existing sub-standard bike lanes along this street and improvements will be made on both side.  Currently, the south side of the roadway has curb & gutters, and the north side has a bar ditch with no curb & gutters.   To accommodate the new bike lanes, the pavement on the north side of Lake Austin Boulevard will be widened and drainage improvements will need to be made.

Lance Amstrong Bikeway Along 4th Street Bikeway Improvements – Austin, Texas

This bikeway project located on the south side of 4th Street between Red River Street and the south bound IH-35 frontage road.  The proposed bikeway project consists of adding approximately 700 linear feet of 12’ wide bike lane (two-way traffic) and a pre-engineered bridge over Waller Creek.

Brodie Lane & Slaughter Lane
Transportation System Management Improvements - Austin

This roadway intersection improvement project consists of adding two right turn lanes and three left turn lanes. The proposed improvements consisted of approximately 2,200 lineal feet of new traffic lane, storm sewer lines, water & wastewater lines, three new traffic signals, expansion of two existing water quality ponds, 1,600 lineal feet of sidewalks and the associated curb ramps, curb & gutters and new striping for vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Dittmar Road Improvements - Austin

The project site is located in the South Boggy Creek watershed in the South Austin area. The existing roadway was typical of older county roads, with one-lane bridges and no storm sewer lines. The proposed improvements consist of a 4-lane divided, curb and gutter roadway. The total roadway improvement is approximately 7,700 linear feet. Raymond Chan & Associates (RC&A) was retained by the City of Austin to provide the hydrologic / hydraulic analysis and the design of storm water improvements for the project.

South Edmond Street - Taylor, Texas

This project consisted of developing 85 acres in Taylor, Texas into an industrial subdivision. The main items of construction included an industrial collector roadway with associated drainage and utility improvements, grading and re-routing of an existing waterway, and reclaiming several acres of land from the 100-year floodplain.   The total street length designed for the industrial park was 2,700 linear feet. The proposed street section consisted of 40’ of pavement with curb and gutter and sidewalk. Street drainage was captured and conveyed by curb inlets and storm drains. A tributary of Mustang Creek bisected the tract and box culverts were installed under the roadway at the tributary crossing. Approximately 2,800 linear feet of channel improvements were designed to reduce the floodplain across the tract and reduce excessive erosion.

Hunters Bend Safety Sidewalk Improvements - Austin

Part of Travis County’s (County) sidewalk improvement projects in various locations.  Project limits are along the west side of Hunters Bend Road in eastern Travis County, from the south side of the intersection with F.M. 969 to the north side of the intersection with Westall Street. Project improvements include constructing a new ADA-accessible, pedestrian sidewalk, relocations of utilities along the alignment of the proposed sidewalk, modifications to the drainage ditch along the alignment of the proposed sidewalk, modifications to F.M. 969’s existing guardrail, curb, drainage ditch and culvert at the southwest corner of the F.M. 969 intersection with Hunters Bend Road, and modifications to the existing signal system at the F.M. 969/Hunters Bend Road intersection.

38th
Street Sidewalk Improvements - Austin TX

This project involves the design of 800 feet of sidewalk improvements along 38th Street from Shoal Creek Blvd to the bus stop adjacent to the 26 Doors shopping center.  RC&A prepared the sidewalk layout and grading plan, traffic control plan, landscape re-planting plan for existing plants lost due to sidewalk construction, coordinated with the adjacent residential and commercial landowners to inform them of the proposed improvements, and addressed City review comments.  The project site is characterized by narrow right of way, significant elevation change between the back of curb and property line, concentrated storm water runoff discharging from the adjacent property to 38th Street, and utility poles along the route.  RC&A was able to design around all these factors and prepared a set of sidewalk improvement documents that met the neighborhood’s concerns and ADA requirements.
